Top class! School all set for Arena Group Lincoln Mini and Junior Runs
Pupils and teachers at a Lincoln primary school are on their marks and all set for a great festival of running.
A number of pupils at Fosse Way Academy will be among hundreds of youngsters taking part in the free-to-enter Arena Group Mini and Junior Runs at Yarborough Leisure Centre on Saturday 1st April. And the following day teachers from the North Hykeham school and Arena's own Sonya and Louise from the Grantham office will join thousands of other runners for the Asda Foundation City of Lincoln 10K.
The mini and junior events provide a great opportunity for children to get active and experience the colour and excitement of a large-scale fun run!
This year’s runs come just weeks after the publication of a major study that found children become less active from the age of seven.
The Gateshead Millenium Cohort study, led by the University of Strathclyde and published in the British Journal of Medicine, found sedentary lifestyles were becoming the norm long before adolescence. Children taking part in the runs are encouraged to raise a small amount of money for a good cause.
Gillian Murray, Arena's Marketing Manager, said: “We are delighted to support the Lincoln Mini and Junior Runs. Not only do they help get the message across that fitness and fun go hand in hand, they also present an excellent opportunity to support a good cause. I’m sure all the children taking part will have a really great day.”
Deputy Head Andy Cooper said: "It's brilliant to see the children so enthused by the event. They can't wait to take part and we are all looking forward to celebrating their achievements and success in assembly."
The Arena Group Mini and Junior Runs and Asda Foundation City of Lincoln 10K are organised by Run For All, part of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE who raised almost £2m for charity through a series of endurance challenges, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer. The Lincoln is event is the first in a series of runs sponsored by Arena Group which enables young people aged 4 - 15 to take part for free. The new Arena Owl will be making an appearance to join the crowds sheering the runner on.
Limited places remain in the Lincoln event, and young people and their families can enter online at /fun-runs/lincoln-mandj/
All finishers get a FREE goody bag, T-shirt and medal, and can share their pre-event preparations and on the day fun on Twitter #RunWithArena.
