Run for All Summer Round Up
These events are a popular feature of a day which brings families and supporters along to cheer the runners on alongside a 10k event. Arena’s sponsorship enables children aged between three and 14 to run for free. To date, over 3,400 young runners have taken part to raise money for favourite charities, to compete, or just for fun with whole families enjoying a healthy day out supported by an enthusiastic crowd.
This year saw the Lincoln run cancelled due to unseasonably snowy conditions. However, the sun shined on subsequent events in Sheffield, Leeds, York and Bury.
The 2.5km run in York in August drew large crowds to line the route in the historic city to see over 900 young runners released by the starter flag waved by Harry Wells, Arena’s Logistics Director. Local charities were well supported including Team Candlelighters, Macmillan Cancer Support, York Mind, Martin House, St Leonard’s Hospice, Brain Tumour Research and Support and Jessie’s Fund.
The most recent event, a new Bury Family Fun Run, took place under September sunshine with over 100 young people running with a family member on the 1.4k route and were rewarded with a goody bag and medal to show the world they did it! Those taking part in the Family Fun Run were encouraged to raise money for Buddy’s for Children with Autism, the event’s partner charity.
Adrian Fitzpatrick, Arena Group Managing Director, said: “The fun run certainly contributed to the great community feel that surrounded the event. It was wonderful to see so many families getting involved in what was a great day.”
The final run of the season takes place in Sheffield on 30th October. New for 2016, the Sheffield Family Fun Run takes place as part of the new Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K.
The fun run starts from Arundel Gate in the city centre at around 11.45am – following the 10K run - and takes participants on a short journey of up to 2km around the local area. The route will be accessible and open to children and adults of all abilities.
